Random acts of kindness

This can be for an individual, a family, your workplace, the local community, or the whole nation.

Environmental action

If you are fed up with not being able to recycle packaging because it has no identifying recycling symbols on it why not wash it out and return it to the retailer it was bought from. Imagine if everyone started doing this, manufacturers would soon cut down packaging and make it less environmentally damaging.

Enclose a letter with your returned packaging explaining why you are doing it and what you want the store to do.

A downloadable editable pro-forma letter is available here, please edit it as you require. Word Doc

Community ideas

Pick up litter in your street with coffee and doughnuts afterwards.

Subversive gardeners, get together with others and

plant a few shrubs / flowers etc in an area which needs some colour .

Cut the grass or hedge for your neighbour, wash their windows for them.

Offer to do the shopping for someone ill or give them a lift or some help.

Organise a BBQ for your neighbours ( summers coming) bring your own bangers. We did this and got a really positive response.

Peace Church is primarily concerned with living with a focus on Jesus as the revelation of God’s character and as such the source of all true values.

Peace Church is not a building it is people, it is not a place, it is people meeting together as friends, it is not about programmes and missions, it is about authentic loving and living within your local community, being 'fully human' first and a 'Christian' second.

It aims to meet once a month (possibly more frequently in the future) either in the evening over coffee or for a Sunday lunch, to share and chat about our experiences, to encourage each other, to discuss Jesus and his life and how we can be more like him, to carry out an act of service for the community or an individual.

It is open to new ideas and isn’t afraid to try new things or make mistakes, it believes that small is beautiful, so as numbers increase other peace churches may develop local to their members.

Peace Church Plymouth is currently at the development stage looking to locate people who do not want to 'go to church once a week' but who want to 'be church' 24/7 and are prepared to take the risk of trying to 'be church' in a different way, with values that reflect Jesus’ ministry and example.

Peace Church has at its foundations the values and vision of Jesus. It is focused around the idea of community and friendship, deep meaningful relationship in a local context, not superficial acquaintances. As a rule, it would meet in a home for sharing, teaching and worship, with a particular emphasis on serving the local community. Worship is focused around an ordinary a meal together and sharing our experiences of following Jesus in our lives, service is through random acts of kindness by well for the community, through social justice initiatives as reaching out to friends, family, work colleagues & neighbours in meaningful relationships not hit and run evangelism.

At its heart is an understanding of the Shalom principle, which is not peace understood as an 'absence of war', but better described as ' integrated wholeness’ in every aspect of living.

As well as personal wholeness and well being, it includes wholeness and ethical integrity within personal and community relationships, the environment, locally nationally and internationally.

If you have a sense of adventure, enjoy laughing, like to learn and are interested in exploring what Jesus meant when he said "Turn the other cheek” or "Go the extra mile" (its not what you might think) then peace church may be for you.

Peace Church is primarily concerned with living with a focus on Jesus as the revelation of God’s character and as such the source of all true values.
